Can you ship the DNA Twin Test kit to multiple addresses?
Yes, we can. If the participants are located in different places, we can send parts of the DNA test kit to separate addresses. During checkout, simply write “Please split kit” in the “Additional Notes” box and specify where to send each component. For example, you can say “Send one kit to [Name, Address]” and “Send the second kit to [Name, Address]”. Each component is uniquely barcoded, so once your samples arrive at the lab, they will be tested together.
Can I use these results for legal purposes?
For legal purposes such as court proceedings, child custody, support, or inheritance claims, you will need to order the Legal DNA Twin Test. This test requires a chain of custody procedure to ensure its admissibility in court. The process involves a neutral third party collecting the DNA samples, proper identification of the participants, and the samples being directly sent to the testing lab. Legal DNA Twin Testing is available in the US, Canada, and the UK.
Is there an age limit for DNA twin tests?
There are no age restrictions for participating in a DNA twin test. Individuals of any age, including newborns, can take the test. However, for minors, consent from a legal guardian is required.
Does the DNA test kit expire?
No, the test kits do not expire and can be stored indefinitely before use. However, once a sample is collected, it’s recommended to send the kit back to our laboratory for testing within 3 months.
How do I read my DNA Twin Test results?
Your results will display two numbers (alleles) that represent the repeats you inherited from each parent at each STR marker. You may have identical alleles at a marker or different ones. These allele numbers are compared between the twins to clearly determine if they are identical or fraternal twins.
