Can the DNA Sibling Test Kit Be Shipped to Multiple Addresses?
Yes! If test participants are in different locations, we can send parts of the DNA test kit to multiple addresses. During checkout, simply enter “Please split kit” in the “Additional Notes” box and specify where each component should be sent. For example, you can request: “Send one kit to [Name, Address]” and “Send the second kit to [Name, Address].” Each kit is individually barcoded, ensuring all samples are processed together at our laboratory.
Can I Use These Results for Legal Purposes?
For legal matters such as court proceedings, child custody, support cases, or inheritance claims, you will need to order the Legal DNA Sibling Test. This test requires a chain of custody procedure to ensure the results are admissible in court. The process includes having DNA samples collected by an impartial third party, proper identification of participants, and samples being directly sent to the testing laboratory. Legal DNA Sibling Testing is available in the US, Canada, and the UK.
Does the DNA Test Kit Expire?
No, the test kits do not have an expiration date and can be stored indefinitely before sample collection. However, once a sample is collected, it is recommended to send the kit to our laboratory for testing within 3 months.
How Do I Read My DNA Sibling Test Results?
Your results will display two numbers (alleles) for each marker, representing the number of repeats inherited from each parent. You may have identical alleles at a marker, or different ones. These allele numbers are compared between the two individuals being tested, and a statistical analysis determines the likelihood of them being biologically related siblings.
- Full siblings (same mother and father) will have a sibling index greater than 1.0.
- Half siblings (one parent in common) will also have a sibling index greater than 1.0.
- The higher the sibling index above 1.0, the stronger the evidence that the individuals are biologically related as siblings.
- Non-siblings typically have a sibling index value of less than 1.0.
