Can you ship the DNA Aunt/Uncle Test kit to multiple addresses?
Yes, we can. If the individuals involved in the test are located in different places, we can send the test kits to separate addresses. Simply add “Please split kit” in the “Additional Notes” box during checkout and provide the addresses where you’d like each part sent. For example, you can write, “Send one kit to [Name, Address]” and “Send the second kit to [Name, Address]”. Each component will have a unique barcode to ensure all samples are tested together when they reach the lab.
Can I use these results for legal purposes?
If you require DNA results for legal reasons, such as court proceedings, child custody or support, or inheritance claims, you must order the Legal DNA Aunt/Uncle Test. Legal tests follow a strict chain of custody procedure to be accepted in court. This process includes sample collection by an impartial third party, proper participant identification, and direct submission of samples to the laboratory. How to read your DNA Aunt/Uncle Test results?
Your results will show two numbers (alleles) that represent the repeats you inherited from each parent at each STR. These alleles may be identical or different at each marker. The allele numbers from the alleged aunt/uncle and the child are compared, and a statistical analysis is performed to determine the kinship between the two individuals, resulting in a “kinship index.”
- Biologically related aunt/uncle and nephew/niece pairs typically have a kinship index value greater than 1.0.
- The higher the kinship index value over 1.0, the stronger the likelihood of a biological relationship.
- Individuals who are not biologically related are expected to have a kinship index value less than 1.0.
How is the DNA sample collected?
DNA collection is easy, safe, and painless. A small brush (buccal swab) is gently rubbed inside the cheek for about 15 seconds to collect the sample.
